Soil Moisture Sensor with Screw Terminals

The SparkFun Soil Moisture Sensor is a user-friendly breakout designed to measure the moisture content in soil and similar materials. With two large, exposed pads that operate as probes for the sensor, they function as a variable resistor. The higher the water content in the soil, the greater the conductivity between the pads, resulting in a decrease in resistance and an increase in SIG out. This version of the Soil Moisture Sensor comes equipped with a 3-pin screw pin terminal that is pre-soldered to the board, making wiring and setup a breeze. To get the SparkFun Soil Moisture Sensor up and running, all you need to do is connect the VCC and GND pins to your Arduino-based device (or compatible development board). This will provide you with a SIG out, the value of which will depend on the moisture level in the soil. One common issue with soil moisture sensors is their limited lifespan when exposed to a moist environment. To address this, the PCB has been coated with a gold finishing (ENIG, or Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold).
